5 Days Marangu Route

Marangu route famously as Coca-cola route as you can drink a Coca-cola at each hut, Marangu route is the only route that’s offer to overnights stays in Hut, with fewer in terms to carry especial camping staffs, less staffs will required in climbing crews that’s reducing cost and makes Marangu the most affordable route to Climb for Kilimanjaro Mountain.

Marangu route is the oldest route on Kilimanjaro. Has beautiful scenery and is favored especial during a rain season because of sleeping Hut. Furthermore, for those wants to climb Kilimanjaro but are in tight budgets this is the most affordable route to climb.

Marangu route is offered two itineraries which is 5 days 4nights and 6 days 5 nights on mountain. The six days hike is good for those are not trekked at high altitudes with a affective extra days acclimatization it gives a better summit success rate. For those are good on hiking and have experience trekking at high altitudes may opt for the more difficult 5 days ascent through Marangu route.

For those climbers who do not wish to camp on Kilimanjaro the Marangu route is the only route that’s offers Hut accommodation. The Huts have a communal dining room, simple washroom and toilets which lower down will be flushable, but as you move higher up the Mountain will be long drop loose, some climbers likes the idea of staying in the huts rather than camping you need to remember that on the Marangu route you will be sharing the Hut with other climbers in open dormitory accommodation.

The Marangu route is one of the easiest and most popular trails in Kilimanjaro. The moderate slope makes it less difficult to climb. It's the only route with huts, simple dining and rooms. 6 days Marangu route is highly recommended over 5 days because of maximum number of days to support the acclimatization.

Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania and transfer to the hotel
Arrive in Tanzania via Kilimanjaro International airport (JRO) Kilimanjaro our staff will pick you up and transfer to Moshi town where you will spend the first night at Panama Garden Resort
Accommodation: Bed and Breakfast at Panama garden resort - Moshi.

Day 2: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
After having your breakfast we will make a short journey from the hotel to Marangu National Park gate for the necessary formalities at the gate. We start the climbs through fascinating tropical rain forest; we reach the first hut at Mandara for dinner and overnight. An alternative is to simply rest and relax the beautiful forest around the camp. Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut (2,700 m):

Day 3: Mandara hut to Horrombo hut
The first part of the walk is a steep ascent through forest, but the path soon opens out into moorland and in clear weather, there are great views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. We arrive at Horombo Hut mid-afternoon, where you can relax and enjoy the stunning scenery around the camp. Mandara Hut to Horrombo Hut (3,720 m)

Zone: Low Alpine Zone

Day 4: Horrombo Hut to Mawenzi hut
Walk towards the Mawenzi hut, passing the Zebra Rocks, this extra day and night at Horombo is for additional acclimatization. We recommend drinking enough water and walking slowly! All meals for the day are provided at the Horrombo hut. Horombo hut to further improve our acclimatization.
Zone: Low alpine zone to High alpine zone

Day 5: Mawenzi Hut to Kibo Hut
Climb very gradually towards the lunar desert of the Saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. These 6-7 hours walking will be taken at a slow pace until we reach Kibo Hut (4,700m), where we will spend the night in a comfortable hut. There is no running water at Kibo Hut. The remainder of the day is spent relaxing in preparation for the final ascent before a very early night.

Day 6: Kibo Hut to Summit then Horrombo Hut
Wake up before midnight in the cover of darkness. We begin a steep climb over loose volcanic screed has some well-graded zig-zags and a slow but steady pace will take us to rim of the main crater, Gillman’s 5,685 m. We will rest there for few minutes to enjoy the sunrise over Mawenzi. Those who are still feeling good can continue slowly to make the three hour round trip from here along the crater rim to Uhuru peak 5,895 m. which is the highest point in Africa. After a few minutes to appreciate your accomplishment we descend to Kibo Hut is amazingly fast and we stop at Kibo Hut for some refreshment, we continue to descend to reach Horrombo Hut. Kibo Hut to Summit to Horrombo Hut (3,720 m.):
13-15 hours walking.
Zone: Glacial zone and the all preceding zones
Accommodation: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 7: Horrombo Hut to Marangu gate
Descend past Mandara hut to Marangu National Park gate, successful climbers will receive their summit certificates. From here you will be transferred to Panama Gardern Resort for dinner, summit cerebration and overnight. Horombo hut to Marangu Gate.
